Final Blog
Name: Stephanie Ricci
Final for ETC447
Standard Explanation
(The
candidates to use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and
technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity,
and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.)
Standard 1: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and
Creativity
Promote,
support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness.
|
Prezi- Can be created with imagination and is a creative way to
display information that can help students become inspired to learn more
about. A Prezi promotes and supports innovative thinking by displaying
information in a way that will spark imagination and create interest in the
subject at the same time.
|
Engage
students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using
digital tools and resources.
|
In my math
lesson that was taught I was teaching the value of money and how to
understand how to make change when an item was purchased. Within this lesson
my students used a program called
www.funbrain.com/cashreg . This program was a free and digital tool
that the students used to problem solve the act of making change.
|
Promote
student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual
understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.
|
A collaborative tool
that I used with one of my lessons
would be the smartboard. The smartboard was used in order for my students to
as a group and collaboratively to solve and work through math problems
involving change. The students were able to use their prior knowledge to see
what they learned as well as I as the instructor was able to informally
assess the information that they knew.
|
Model
collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students,
colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments.
|
Classroom Blogs- Classroom Blogs create a virtual
environment for teachers as well as students to collaborate with each other
and share information. This also can help students engage more in learning by
posting results, classroom problems, and information but it also a way to
spark interest in students by collaboration and creativity. Classroom blogs
can also be edited to promote learning and learning only by the teacher who
sets one up.
|
Standard 2: Design and Develop Digital-Age learning
Experiences and Assessments
Demonstrate
fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new
technologies and situations.
|
Throughout the
semester I was able to understand and learn new way to use technology within
the classroom. I learned about a new program called Xtranormal.com which was an
interactive animation website that creates short animated films. I was able to really understand how a fun
activity online can also be a great learning tool towards students. I also
relearned how to use excel and make graphs as well as spreadsheets. I had
known how to do this on the computer when in high school but if you do not
use a tool you quickly lose your skill. I also learned that within any type
of lesson you can involve and incorporate technology.
|
Develop
technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue
their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their
own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own
progress.
|
When being
taught a reading lesson by one of my colleges I learned about a great tool
called Oxford Owl that can assess children’s progress and help them to manage
their own learning by having the option to turn the e-book when they have
read it and have comprehended what was being said. They are able to re visit
any part of the book that they were not sure of and were also able to assess
their understanding of the book with quick assessments given at the end of
the book.
|
Customize and personalize learning
activities to address students' diverse learning styles, working strategies,
and abilities using digital tools and resources.
|
The ipad
applications that I did my group presentation on was a great tool to use for
my future students in giving differentiated learning options. The
applications are used to help students to learn material in a fun and
inventive way.
|
Provide students with multiple and
varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and
technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and
|
With both of my
lessons my students were given an option to perform assessments either on a
worksheet or through technology by getting quick assessments through programs
such as funbrain.com
|
Standard 3: Model Digital-Age Work and Learning
Demonstrate
fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new
technologies and situations.
|
Within my own
presentation that I had to do for a great new technology that can be used in
the classroom but is a modern digital age program would be Xtranormal.com This
program was a great software that was used for children to create a short
animated film with correct information about a celebrity or a historical
figure. This was a new technology that I learned to use and it was extremely
creative and great for learning.
|
Collaborate
with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and
resources to support student success and innovation.
|
I was able to
become acquainted to new programs through my peers and teacher such as
Glogster, Xtranormal, Excel, Prezi, and many more. Through these
programs I will be able to use these
digital tools to help support my
future students learning and innovation.
|
Communicate relevant
information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a
variety of digital-age media and formats.
|
Kidblog.org was
a great and inventive way to communicate information to parents, students,
and peers that is a modern day technology. The teacher was able to put up
certain information and communicate with students in an effective and productive way.
|
Model and
facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate,
analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and
learning.
|
IXL.com is a
math website will help students to analyze their progress of their math
skills and also locate information that is they need to use with learning
math skills.
|
Standard 4: Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and
Responsibility
Advocate,
model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and
technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the
appropriate documentation of sources.
|
The meaning behind a safe, legal and ethical use of technology is based
upon the actions you take. Being safe means not putting out personal
information that can be harmful to you or to others in regards to their
safety. Staying legal while using technology means that when creating work or
using information there are ways not to go about this in a legal manner.
Also, knowing the laws regarding what you can and cannot do on the Internet
is part of being safe. Finally, the ethical use of technology means that you
use technology in a professional manner. |
Address the
diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing
equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources.
|
Technology holds the key for teachers to incorporate all learning
styles to meet the needs of all students. Using technology in a lesson can
help students who are visual learners but say incorporating videos or
pictures or can help a student who is an audio learner by providing sound
effects or voices to a PowerPoint. Technology is a tool teachers can use to
their advantage to provide adequate information for all learners through all
different uses of technology.
|
Promote and
model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the
use of technology and information.
|
Digital etiquette is known as having manners through technology. This
is no different then being face to face with a person and having manners. The
same is expected online and through technology. Having responsible social
interactions is also important for teachers to understand. You need to
present yourself as a professional such as you would in the classroom.
Holding appropriate social interactions is known as being responsible.
Through using technology for lessons as a teacher you need to show your
students the proper way to use technology.
|
Develop and
model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues
and students of other cultures using digital-age communication and
collaboration tools.
|
By using technology a teacher can show their students about the world
around them. They can use it to learn about events or information from around
the world where as without technology would be infeasible. Finally, using
digital age communication is also beneficial to teachers due to the process
that they can use this to contact parents, to have students participate in a
lesson virtually, or for students to stay connected with other students. |
Micro lesson 2: Blog Phase 2
1) Instructional Decision Teaching - During the lesson I taught that it went pretty well. I first decieded to have the students watch a video and explain to me all the different habitats that were being explored to access their prior knowledge and know where I stood with their understanding of the information. I learned that some student's were able to inform me about some of the habitats and some were not. Throughout the lesson I maintained the alignment by refering back to the standard mutiple times throughout the lesson. I keep asking the students what habitat would this animal live in ? and so on.
2) The evidence became apparent that the objectives were being understood by having the students participate indivdually of the drawing of the animals and plants that went into each different habitat on the worksheet. I went around and viewed the drawing as they started to make shape to ensure informally that the students were undertstandig the content and purpose of the worksheet.

Blog 1 second micro lesson
1) Within my second micro lesson which is a science lesson geared towards first graders I will be accessing their prior knowledge by asking them inquiry questions. I will ask them to tell me what they already know about the ocean, forest, and desert habitats. I will also show them a fish to spark their thought process.
2) the goal within this lesson is to have my students understand animal habitats and clearly exhibit their understanding. The common core standard will be completed and my student will be able to tell me which animals and plants live in which habitat.
3) The lesson is organized by the nau's 5 e lesson plan. The objective and materials are listed along with how to engage the students and the procedure. This layout is a very effective lay out for teaching a science lesson. I will use visual aids throughout the lesson for one being the video and the others are the little manipulatively that the students will use to explore the different habitats. The students will use what they explore to complete and draw different artifacts of each habitat onto their habitat worksheet.
4) the assessment will be that the students will use stickers to complete the worksheet. They will take stickers and place them onto the correct habitats just like they drew during the lesson. This will be a great way for the students to not feel as pressured that it is an assessment but rather be creative and use what they just learned to shoe the teacher what they now know.

Blog Phase II
1). Instructional Decision Teaching - What I did during my lesson worked very well. I first decided to have the students start with a worksheet to assess their abilites and prior knowledge. I then worked with the students in the board and went through examples together to show modeling. I learned that alot of student's are well aware of the money aspect of math because they deal with money on a regular basis. I maintained the alignment of the objectives by constantly having them be aware of the value of every coin and how change is made. They completed the objective as a pre activity, during the lesson and also at the end of the lesson. There were no modifications that were needed for indiviual needs.
2.) The evidence became apparent that the objectives were being understood by having the students participate indivually and as a group to solve problems together. They also were not able to move on to the next level in the technology part of the lesson without getting at least five correct and by walking around the room the children were assessed informally by observing the amount of questions answered correctly and incorrectly being that they were posted on the screen to view. The comments from my classmate support this view because they agreed that that informal assessment is the best way to know if the students are understanding the material or not. I noticed while teaching this lesson that the students were not under pressure prefomring the informal assessment so I felt that they were assessed more fairly. Also, the student's seemed to move on to medium much faster than I even anticipated meaning that they for sure understood the material. They were also given a formal assessment at the end involving a worksheet. They were to complete the worksheet and that would be yet another way to assess the children's understanding of the material being presented.

1) In my lesson prior expierence will be assess by providing a worksheet or a pre-test to ensure that the students can understand currency. This will give me as the teacher an idea of where my students are and if i need to back track alittle bit to help them understand what is to come. I expect to learn their understanding of the values of each coin and currency. This information is useful in order to plan my lesson due to the fact that if I do need to step back and reteach what the values of each coin are I can plan for that in my lesson.
2) My goals are clearly stated in my lesson. These goals are that I want my students to come out of this math lesson and be able to use values of currency to solve word problems. These are apprproate for students because in the common core standards 2.md.2 it states that students should be able to solve word problems involving currency.
3) https://w.taskstream.com/Lesson/View/1E311F6CC062A763791E70F1EC20899F
This lesson is organized by breaking down each indiviual step that goes into desgining a lesson. All meterials and resources are listed, the procedure is listed as well as any state standards that are implemented in this lesson. I not only will use visual aids on both worksheets and by providing an example on the board but will also include interactive opeprtunities for my students. This aligns with technology due to the funbrain.com website which uses a program to engage students. This site is both safe and legal and uses technonolgy in the appropriate fashion. It will also not allow any students any interaction with strangers or other students and is individual based. This site does meet all diverse needs of the students because it is interactive and handson while being visual at the same time. The one item this website does not address would be the global awareness and digital age communication because there is no way to communicate with others.

This quiz will provide students the oppertunity to show me exactly what they have learned from the lesson provided. This quiz does not nessesarity provide higher level thinking only because in math I think that all students needs to understand the concept first make sure the concept is fully understood and then later on provide higher level of thinking oppertinities.
